On July 11th, 2024, the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia and the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Lab, Technical University of Crete (ReSEL TUC, BLUE PORTS coordinator), organized a Stakeholders Workshop, , that was hosted at the Batumi State Maritime Academy Conference Hall, in Batumi, Georgia. The event brought together the entire BLUE PORTS consortium and members of the Georgian National Technical Committee, including the Batumi State Maritime Academy, the Batumi Navigation Teaching University, Poti New Sea Port LLC, Poti APM Terminal, LLC “G&M” Research & Consulting and LAM Shipping Agencies Georgia LLC.
Keynote presentations delivered by the BLUE PORTS team addressed critical topics, such as the Green Transition in Ports – Future Trends, Opportunities, and Challenges by Prof. Theocharis Tsoutsos (Renewable and Sustainable Energy Lab, Technical University of Crete), Present and Future Green Skills Needs of the Maritime sector by Carolina Navarro Correcher (Fundacion de la Comunidad Valenciana para la investigación, promoción y estudios comerciales de Valenciaport – FV), BLUE PORTS – Building Professional Qualifications to Support the Green Transition of Ports by Stavroula Tournaki, (ReSEL TUC) and The Added Value of Green Skills Certification for Ports’ Workforce by Christos Kariotis (TÜV Hellas/TÜV NORD).
Engaging discussions centred on the current landscape of the Georgian ports sector, identifying skill gaps, and strategizing effective mainstreaming of the BLUE PORTS scheme across the country and the broader Black Sea region. This collaborative effort aims to underscore equipping the Georgian ports’ workforce with the necessary skills and qualifications to support the green transition, ultimately enhancing the sector’s sustainability and competitiveness.
