BLUE PORTS | D2.5 Identification of present and future skills needs 9EXECUTIVE SUMMARYThe Blue Ports initiative, focusing on \significantly enhance the skills and capacities of the human capital within the port ecosystem, aligning it with the Green Transition imperatives laid out by the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Blue Economy Strategy. As ports across Europe are increasingly viewed as pivotal nodes in achieving sustainability goals, this initiative is timely and critical. The \current and future skills required to drive the Green Transition in small and medium-sized ports across several participating countries: Georgia, Greece, Italy, and Spain, presenting an indepth analysis of the skills gaps and training needs within the port industry up to 2030 and providing valuable insights to support strategic recommendations for addressing these needsfor the sustainable growth and competitiveness of the port sector.CURRENT LANDSCAPE AND METHODOLOGYA comprehensive examination of the current skills landscape within the port industry, was determined through a market survey and foresight exercise conducted across the four participating countries. The dual-pronged methodology involved engaging a broad spectrum of port ecosystem stakeholders, including employers, employees, industry experts, and academia, to gather qualitative data on existing skill levels, training experiences, and future needs related to the Green Transition. The market survey, conducted between June and July 2024, focused on capturing the educational backgrounds, professional experiences, and skill sets of port personnel. The survey also sought to understand the relevance of various green skills in the current job market and the anticipated demand for these skills by 2030. The foresight exercise, designed and implemented during the National Technical Committees consultation meetings in all participating countries, explored potential future developments in port operations, particularly in the context of Green Transition and the Blue Economy.KEY FINDINGSKey findings from these exercises provide a detailed synthesis of the current state of knowledge, the gaps that need to be addressed, and the competencies that will be required to support the Green Transition in ports:Environmental Protection Current Training and Knowledge Levels: Environmental protection emerged as one of the areas where port personnel have a relatively strong foundation. The survey results indicate that many respondents have a basic to good understanding of environmental issues such as pollution
